Master of Science in Health Care Management

The Program

The Master of Science in Health Care Management (MSHM) is an online graduate program which helps prepare individuals to be highly effective managers and leaders in the health care industry.   This program is especially appropriate for those who are currently working in the health professions and are simultaneously seeking to further advance their careers by broadening and deepening their skill set.  As such, the program offers an array of educational experiences in management, leadership, strategic planning, finance and economics, quality assurance, informatics, legal and ethics, as well as research and other related areas.

Employment Outlook

According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, medical and health services managers are employed in settings such as hospitals, physician offices, nursing homes, residential care facilities, home healthcare, Federal Government healthcare facilities, outpatient facilities, insurance industry, and community healthcare agencies.  The Bureau states that employment in this field “is expected to grow 16 percent from 2008 to 2018, faster than average for all occupations”.  The “middle 50 percent [of medical and health services managers] earned between $62,170 and $104,120”.

The Master of Science in Health Care Management has three tracks.  They are Management and Leadership, Pharmaceutical Management and Health Care Informatics; each of which is described below.

The Management and Leadership track is appropriate for a wide range of health professionals who are seeking to advance their careers and expand their career options.  This track is especially suited for those currently working in health care who are simultaneously seeking to broaden and deepen their management and administrative skill-set.  The track offers ideal blend of structure and flexibility, combining foundational course requirements related to management, leadership, finance and strategic planning, as well as an extensive choice of track courses and electives.  


Business in Healthcare/Pharmaceutical Management with CMRI

Enhancing career opportunities for healthcare representatives and managers is the goal of the CMR Institute and the Rutgers of New Jersey - School of Health Related Professions (Rutgers - SHRP). Two programs - the Master of Science in Health Care Management and the Master of Science in Health Sciences are specifically designed to allow you to apply up to 15 credits of graduate level ACE approved CMR Institute coursework towards a master's degree,  thus expanding your knowledge and skills, and adding value to your career!

AMR Certificate Program

The only one of its kind, the AMR Certificate Program is a self-paced, distance learning program designed to build an immediately applicable foundation of knowledge in science, medicine, disease management, business, and management for health professionals.

ASM Certificate Program

The Advanced Sales Management Program provides new managers, as well as seasoned representatives who wish to attain a management position, the skills and knowledge to become more effective managers, coaches, and motivators.

CMR Institute students/graduates may apply approved CMRI credits towards the Master of Science in Health Systems.

Students with baccalaureate degrees in health sciences who do not plan to seek the Master of Science degree may apply to enroll in the postbaccalaureate level Health Care Informatics Certificate Program. The credits for the Certificate may be applied to the Master of Science in Health Care Management.  Ideally, a student would complete the Certificate before applying to the Master’s program. This combination of the Certificate and degree is ideal for individuals who would utilize information systems in the management of their unit.
