Welcome to the Rutgers University Physical Therapy Program located in South Jersey! The Program is sponsored by RBHS School of Health Related Professions and the Graduate School at Camden. The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program’s curriculum is designed to provide a student's first degree in physical therapy and prepare health professionals who will function competently and creatively as members of an interdisciplinary team of professionals in a dynamic health care environment. The program is full-time and requires the completion of a minimum of 110 credits over a 36-month period. Classes begin on the Tuesday after Memorial Day each year.
The Program's primary mission is to educate students to become generalist physical therapists engaged in contemporary practice with faculty and students committed to humanistic principles through education, scholarship, service and practice. The curriculum builds upon a liberal arts education and integrates the humanities, scientific theory, and clinical experiences to provide entry level competence in patient care, management, health care programming, community education and service, and scientific inquiry.
The DPT Program facilities are located in Stratford, New Jersey on the campus of Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (SOM). The campus is conveniently located one half hour from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and one hour from the New Jersey shore. Student services and the Neuroscience course are provided at the Camden campus of Rutgers University.
The admissions process is competitive. In the most recent admissions cycle, 35% of applicants were accepted. The matriculation rate (percentage of accepted students who enrolled in the program) was 56%.
Electronic applications must be submitted through the Physical Therapy Centralized Application Service (PTCAS) by October 1. All supporting documentation must be submitted by November 1. Eligible applicants may be invited for an interview. For instructions on how to apply to the program click here.
Thirty eight weeks of clinical experiences are integrated throughout the curriculum. Clinical placement is based upon the students' educational needs and clinical availability. The DPT Program maintains affiliation agreements with over 600 clinical facilities throughout the country. Students who enroll in the DPT Program should be prepared to commute up to 1.5 hours for local clinical experiences and to assume the costs of travel and living expenses associated with their clinical affiliations.

DPT Program faculty members focus upon the growth and development of each individual student and represent a broad spectrum of physical therapy practice. The faculty includes board-certified clinical specialists in the areas of hand, orthopedic, neurologic, pediatric, and cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation. The average class size (30) and faculty-to-student ratios (30:1 for classes; 15:1 for labs) are small.
Physical therapy education is an academically rigorous experience. It is extremely difficult to maintain employment while matriculating in the Program. The graduation rate (ratio of graduates to initially enrolled students) for the class of 2011 as reported to the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) in the 2013 Annual Accreditation Report (AAR) was 89.7%.
Our program’s weighted average ultimate 3 year (2010-2012) pass rate on the licensure exam as reported by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) was 97.18% (downloaded from fsbpt.org on 9-10-14).
Graduates of our program are employed in a variety of educational and practice settings throughout the country. Ninety percent (90%) of program graduates in the Class of 2012 who sought employment within six months of passing the licensure exam have found employment as a physical therapist.

Students in the DPT Program are graduates of a variety of undergraduate programs from across the nation and come from diverse backgrounds.
Students engage actively in the learning process through a variety of teaching strategies. Students are provided with early and frequent exposures to the clinical setting through their coursework allowing them to apply what they have learned in the classroom to real-life experiences.
Students have the unique opportunity to participate in a community service project in which they screen migrant workers and their children for musculoskeletal dysfunction and developmental delays.
