Dental Assisting - Curriculum
The dental radiology course, as part of the Dental
Assisting Program is, accredited by the New Jersey Radiologic Technology
Board of Examiners.
Participants must be 18 years of age or older and must also document
proof of graduation from high school. If the high school education has
been completed out of the United States, an official evaluation to
verify equivalency must be provided prior to the start of the dental
radiology course. The Dental Assisting curriculum contains a Dental
Radiography course which is separately accredited by the New Jersey
Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners. Upon successful completion of
the Dental Radiology component of the Dental Assisting Program, the
student will obtain a certificate of completion for that course. The
student will then be eligible for the New Jersey Dental Radiology
Licensure exam and be eligible for licensure upon successful
The following must be completed before a student can start clinical education:
(a) the successful completion of both the didactic and laboratory components of the program
(b) the “Clinical Affiliate Application” is approved by the Board for that student and
(c) the “Permission Statement” on the “Dental Radiography Verification of Curriculum Completion Form” is completed by the
Although some patients may be provided by the school, the student may need to bring patients who have a clinical need for dental radiographs.
The Dental Assisting curriculum consists of classroom and clinical coursework offered during weekday hours. All course work must be completed within four semesters from initial registration in the program.
Spring, Summer & Fall Semesters
All Science/Lab courses must have been completed within five years or less in order to qualify for acceptance into the Dental Assisting Program

*Although A&P I is not a prerequisite for admission to the Program, A&P I must be completed with a grade of "C" or above prior to the start of the dental coursework in January.

COURSES ARE TAUGHT IN ENGLISH
Students are required to attend classes on multiple campuses. Some courses may be web-enhanced. Students must have access to a computer and internet.
Students are requiured to check email daily. Majority of supplemental course materials are posted on line.
Criminal background checks are performed by the State Board of Dentistry of New Jersey prior to licensure.
* Core course work transferable to Dental Hygiene Program within 2 years of graduation from Rutgers Dental Assisting Program with a grade "C" or above.
